A Wild Waterfall Proposal Adventure at Rainbow Falls in Sapphire, NC

Some proposal sessions are beautiful. Some are adventurous. And then there are sessions like Braydon and Greenlee's—where romance, adrenaline, and breathtaking mountain scenery all come together for an unforgettable experience.

When Braydon reached out about planning a proposal at Rainbow Falls in Sapphire, North Carolina, I knew we were in for something special. Nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Rainbow Falls is one of the most stunning waterfall destinations in Western North Carolina and the perfect location for couples who love adventure as much as they love each other.

An Epic Proposal at Rainbow Falls

The hike to Rainbow Falls already feels like stepping into another world. Towering trees, rushing water, and mountain air create the kind of atmosphere that makes every moment feel a little more meaningful.

I was already in place hiding behind a massive boulder. About 15 minutes later the two showed up and began to walk out to the end of the rocks overlooking Rainbow Falls. Braydon and Greenlee took in the incredible views embraced in each others arms before Braydon got down on one knee and asked one of the biggest questions of his life.

Of course, she said "yes"!!!!

The excitement, the tears, the laughter—it was one of those moments that reminds me why I love being an adventure proposal photographer. There is nothing quite like documenting a genuine surprise in a place that feels larger than life.

Exploring the Waterfall Together

What made this proposal session truly unique was what happened after the proposal.

Most couples celebrate, take a few portraits, and head back down the trail. Not Braydon and Greenlee.

These two fully embraced the adventure.

They climbed across the massive rock formations surrounding Rainbow Falls, explored every overlook they could find, and weren't afraid to get close to the rushing water for some incredible photographs. Their energy was contagious, and every new location revealed another stunning backdrop.

As an adventure photographer, these are the moments I live for—couples who aren't afraid to get a little muddy, scramble over rocks, and trust the process to create something unforgettable.

Ending the Day at Turtleback Falls

Just when I thought this adventure couldn't get any better, Braydon and Greenlee decided to finish their session with one final challenge.

They slid down Turtleback Falls.

If you've ever visited this iconic Western North Carolina waterfall, you know exactly how exciting that sounds. Watching these two celebrate their engagement by literally sliding down a waterfall perfectly captured who they are as a couple—fun, adventurous, and completely present with each other.

The result was a proposal session that felt less like a photoshoot and more like a real-life adventure story.
