Best Engagement Session Locations in the Highlands
After spending the past few months in the Highlands/Cashiers area of Western North Carolina I can tell you a few things. Number one, it's absolutely beautiful here anytime of year. I've visited numerous times during the summer and fall months, and winter is just as lovely {in its own way}. Less crowds, and the same beautiful waterfalls and trails. Yes, there aren't as many blooming trees or flowers however it remains fairly green because of the rhododendron bushes and pine trees. I've had a chance to explore the area and photograph a handful of awesome clients so now I want to share a few of my favorite locations for engagement and family sessions in the Highlands area.
The first location is Silver Run Falls located in Cashiers, North Carolina. This is a short, straight forward trail that leads to a stunning waterfall. And also if you are brave enough in the winter, it would be a great place to cold plunge! Or, if you are up here in the summer, its an amazing watering hole to cool off.
The second location is Pinky Falls trail located in between Highlands and Cashiers, North Carolina. It is an easy hike down to a sandy beach and mellow watering hole. I recently photographed a beautiful family here. I laughed because the wife said she didn't want a long trail since she was sore from a weeks worth of hiking. I randomly came across Pinky Falls Trail on a google search and sent it over. The .01 mile hike from car to beach was manageable for all and was surprisingly beautiful surrounded by rhododendrons as tall as a two story house.
The final location that is great for an engagement session is Glen Falls Trail located just outside of Highlands, North Carolina. This is a beautiful forest hike that leads to the incredible Glen Falls. And there are multiple vantage points of the waterfall. The trail is well maintained and has beautiful scenic outlooks. Just fair warning, the hike back is uphill so save some stamina for the end.
And because I can't do a blog post without photos, here are some of my favorite images of the sessions.
