Callie + Crawford Surprise Proposal

If you’re dreaming up a proposal or intimate celebration in the mountains of Western North Carolina, it doesn’t get more memorable than High Hampton Resort in Cashiers, NC. Historic charm, iconic views, and just enough upscale mountain luxury to feel like a retreat for couples (and photographers) alike.

This place has been hosting unforgettable moments since the 1920s, but Callie and Crawford’s proposal might take the cake… or at least the champagne.

Crawford had been planning this moment for a while, and with a little help from his dad (we love a good co-conspirator), what Callie thought was a casual drink before dinner soon turned into an intimate walk to the overlook of Whiteside Mountain.

What she didn’t know? Her entire family and friend group was secretly perched on the upper balcony of the resort ready to cheer them on once she said "YES"

As soon as she did the entire resort erupted in cheers.

And because no great story ends without a little celebration—Crawford had more magic up his sleeve. After the proposal, the group kicked things off with a cocktail hour on the grounds. And then, Ed and Fred, the resort’s resident donkeys, made a cameo.

Yes, donkeys. Wearing flower crowns. Legendary if you ask me.

The celebration wrapped up with a private dinner at The Halstead House, one of High Hampton’s most intimate spaces. Tucked away and totally elegant, it’s ideal for small wedding receptions, rehearsal dinners—or surprise proposal feasts like this one.

It was the perfect end to a day full of plotting, tears, mountains, and major love.

Whether you’re planning a Cashiers NC proposal or a wedding at High Hampton Resort, the magic is real, and the views don’t hurt either. As a Cashiers wedding photographer, I live for these moments: the emotion, the unexpected, and the moments that mean everything.

Callie and Crawford, thank you for letting me document the beginning of your forever. You two pulled off a mountain moment to remember, and I’m still grinning about it. Here are some of my favorites from their momentous afternoon.
