Connor + Reagan’s Engagement at the Biltmore Estate
There is just something about the Biltmore Estate at Christmastime that feels like it was made for proposals.
Twinkling lights. Crisp mountain air. Evergreen garlands. And that unmistakable magic that only happens in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
When Connor first reached out about planning a surprise proposal at the Biltmore, I knew this one was going to be special.
Connor and Reagan live in South Carolina, but the mountains of Western North Carolina hold a special place in their story.
Connor’s family owns a Christmas tree farm in Cashiers, NC, and the couple loves escaping to the mountains whenever they can. So proposing at the Biltmore Estate, especially during the Christmas season, felt deeply personal and meaningful.
We planned everything carefully. The idea was simple and seamless:
They would tour the Biltmore house and then casually wander the grounds, eventually making their way to the iconic Diana Lawn {one of the most breathtaking proposal spots on the estate}
If you’ve ever stood on the Diana Lawn overlooking the estate and Blue Ridge Mountains, you know exactly why it’s perfect for a proposal.
To help guide Connor to the exact spot, I marked the proposal location with a small pile of sticks shaped like a heart. Subtle. Mountain-approved. Completely romantic.
Connor sent me a photo of the two of them ahead of time so I could discreetly spot them in the crowd.
Everything was unfolding perfectly… until the wind picked up.
The temperature dropped. And Reagan changed outfits.
But this is why planning (and quick thinking) matters.
On the sly, Connor texted me about the outfit switch so I could adjust and find them quickly. Within moments, I had eyes on them again.
With the Biltmore Estate standing grandly behind them and mountain views stretching endlessly in the distance, Connor got down on one knee.
Reagan’s reaction? Pure joy. Complete surprise. And of course, an immediate "YES"
There’s something incredibly emotional about photographing proposals. You’re witnessing one of the most pivotal moments in someone’s life, and at a place as iconic as the Biltmore, it feels even more cinematic.

After the big “yes,” I walked over (big hugs all around) and officially introduced myself.
From there, we explored the estate together, capturing joyful, just-engaged portraits across the grounds. The laughter. The hand squeezes. The “I can’t believe we’re engaged” smiles.
Those are always my favorite moments.
Connor and Reagan wrapped up their evening with plans for a celebratory dinner — newly engaged, glowing, and still riding the high of the surprise.
